The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 14-year-old Paige Ratner as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The eighth grader at Yavneh Academy loves basketball and is a star on the Yavneh Academy RedHawks. Ratner also set a MGBL record this past, becoming the only player to play in three consecutive MGBL championship games and has won the last two. Paige’s MGBL coaches Ethan Mirwis and Jeremy Nussbaum told the JLNJ, “It was a pleasure coaching Paige this past year on the 7/8 grade MGBL championship team. Her tenacity on defense and 3 point skills were an essential part of the team’s success. Paige will surely be a star yeshiva league player for years to come.“
Paige, congrats on another great year of MGBL. Who is your role model and why?
Henrik Lundqvist has always been my role model. He’s a goalie of the New York Rangers, and I love him because he is such an inspiration. Even though he hasn’t won a Stanley cup, he still strives and works super hard to achieve this. Additionally, he is one fine looking man!
What is your favorite sport?
Basketball.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
My greatest sports accomplishment is being in four total mgbl basketball championships, winning three of them and winning mvp.
What is your pregame routine, if you have one?
I daven every day of a game to wish for myself and team to play well and win. Furthermore, I make sure to bring a diet peach Snapple to each game, which enhances my energy level.
What is your earliest sport memory?
When I was playing outside and I scored my first foul shot; It was underhand!
What is your weirdest sports memory?
My weirdest memory is that one time, I forgot one of my sneakers before a game. I ended up playing the first quarter of the game in my older sister’s sneakers until my mom arrived with my pair.
What is your favorite sports memory?
This year on my school team, I played against a really amazing team. It was a really close game the whole time, but then, with twenty five seconds left, and we were down by one, I scored a three to win the game.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Aside from playing sports, I love hanging out with my friends from all different schools!
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
The best thing about being a sportstar is that it enables you to lead a team, giving your teammates confidence to play their best and fostering positivity even when games are intense.
