The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize Eitan Bernath, Manny Nagel and Ben Shore as this week’s Sportstars of the Week. These three 15-year-old Frisch sophomores volunteered a couple of precious hours on Sunday, September 10 to march with, and help raise money for, Sharsheret. Sharsheret is an organization started by Manny’s aunt Rochelle Shoretz a”h. The organization filled a much needed gap and blossomed under Shoretz’s leadership, until she lost her almost 15 year battle with breast cancer. In her absence, Sharsheret has continued Rochelle’s vision and with the Rochelle’s Dream fund hopes to financially sustain the organization going forward. More information about sharsheret, including how to contribute to Rochelle’s Dream can be found at https://sharsheret.org/
Ben Shore’s favorite sport is soccer and he has many terrific role models in his life. His favorite athlete is FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. “He is a terrific individual and team player and an inspiring person.” His greatest sports accomplishment is organizing and running a 5K with friends and family as his bar mitzvah project to raise money for an important cause. When not playing sports, Ben likes to watch sports and feels that the best thing about being recognized as Sportstar of the Week, is the opportunity to encourage others to support meaningful causes and organizations like Sharsheret.
Manny Nagel’s favorite sport is soccer and his favorite athlete and role model is his late aunt Rochelle Shoretz a”h “for doing all these runs while still fighting breast cancer.” Manny’s pregame routine involves a lot of stretching. When not playing sports, Manny plays the drums and feels that the best thing about being recognized as Sportstar of the Week is “people knowing that I care about Sharsheret.”
Eitan Bernath loves sports but is best known for his cooking skills. His cooking idol is Guy Fieri “because he is not just an amazing chef but an amazing person. Additionally, I love how excited and enthusiastic he is about food and cooking.” The highlight of Bernath’s cooking career was appearing on Guy Fieri’s TV show “Guy’s Grocery Games” on Food Network as the only teen against adults on the superfan episode that aired on September 24, 2017. When not cooking Eitan enjoys doing food photography and writing blog posts on his blog, cookwithchefeitan.com. For Eitan, the best part of being recognized as Sportstar of the Week “is that no one saw it coming…not even me!”
The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift certificate to Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for upcoming Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected]
