On Tuesday morning, April 19, over 400 Teaneck High School (THS) students filed into the auditorium to hear a presentation by Holocaust survivor Dr. Alex Levy. Rockland resident Levy, 87, was only 2 years old when his parents fled Germany to seek shelter from the Nazi takeover in Brussels, Belgium. Through harrowing experiences during which he and his mother were miraculously spared the destiny of their extensive family, Levy arrived in the US at age 13. He married, had two children and is the proud grandfather of nine. He earned a doctorate in educational administration and served many years as a teacher of English literature and writing on the college and high school levels. In keeping with THS Math Instructor and Holocaust Program Director Goldie Minkowitz tasking them with being the last of first-hand witnesses of actual survivors of the horrors of the Shoah, the students listened raptly to Dr. Levy’s story.
