Thanksgiving Day was warmed for many by Teaneck’s celebration held at Rain. Emergency service workers, veterans, seniors, families and friends gathered to express camaraderie and share a delicious traditional Thanksgiving meal. Deputy Mayor Eli Katz and Councilwoman Gervonn Romney-Rice expressed appreciation on behalf of everyone for the essential services to the community of these special public service professionals.

They also made a special presentation to honor the legacy of Janice Preschel for her years of service and devotion to the Helping Hands Food Pantry. Sadly, Preschel succumbed to COVID, and the award was accepted on her behalf by her brother, Larry Preschel, who introduced his new granddaughter June, named in memory of Janice.

Councilmembers Karen Orgen and Michael Pagan visited with the guests. Also present was Allie Orgen, who was the behind-the-scenes ‘remote engineer’ of last summer’s Celebrate Israel Parade rally and concert.

Township Manager Dean Kazinci circulated amongst the crowd, and joined Congressman Josh Gottheimer in presenting an encased American flag to the family of Janice Preschel. “This flag was flown first in Washington D.C., and then brought to Teaneck for presentation to the family,” said Gottheimer. He also expressed appreciation to the Teaneck service workers and all American veterans who have served. He then invited everyone inside to enjoy the abundant fare generously provided by Chopstix, Dougie’s and Butterflake Bakery during the two-hour gathering, to a cheerful crowd of about 250 guests and volunteers.
