On May 5, Teaneck will host its second 5K race, sponsored by the Teaneck Organization for Public Schools (TOPS), to help fund technology and after-school programs for the students of Teaneck’s public schools. The 5K race has been fully certified and sanctioned by US Track & Field. There will also be a 1-Mile Color Fun Run so that children and families of all ages and abilities can participate.
“I was amazed by how many people took part in this outstanding event last year,” said Dr. Christopher Irving, superintendent of Teaneck Public Schools. “We need to see another fantastic turnout from our community to help support such a great cause—our school system. It’s a fun day for all ages and I look forward to seeing you there!”
TOPS is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational foundation whose sole mission is to support the instructional needs of Teaneck’s public school children. Since its founding in 1991, TOPS has contributed over $100,000 to classroom support programs, technology needs and additional family support services to improve the education of Teaneck Public Schools’ students.
Equally important, the 5K/Fun Run is a community-building event that also benefits the runners.
“As a 90-year-old, participation in the 5K is a major contributor to the vitality I enjoy in my senior years,” said Phil Ball, a long-time Teaneck resident.
The Teaneck 5K is an official USATF-sanctioned and timed race. All proceeds to go to the Teaneck public schools. Runners, walkers, wheelchairs or strollers: All levels of participation are welcome. Participants can register now ($30/person for the 5K; $25/person for the Color Run) at https://TOPSteaneck.org.
