On Monday, after Simchat Torah, I called Teaneck Councilwoman Karen Orgen and said that the Jewish Community Council of Greater Teaneck, which consists of Teaneck and Bergenfield member shuls from all denominations, would like to work on a rally in support of Israel for the coming week. She informed me that she had been in touch with rabbonim from the RCBC on the same topic, so we combined forces and in just a little more than 24 hours, a flier was created and the event was put in motion. Rabbi Benny Krohn, the current head of the RCBC and morah d’atra of the Young Israel of Teaneck, and Rabbi Daniel Fridman of the Teaneck Jewish Center worked very hard on the program and the logistics and we were fortunate to get both Jonathan Rimberg and Yitzy Glicksman to provide music for the event. The evening included Tehillim recited by a number of local rabbonim as well as a keynote by CB Neugroschl, principal of Maayanot, who has two sons currently serving in the IDF. Kudos to Karen Orgen for her hard work and to all who came on such short notice to show solidarity with Israel.
The event showed how the community can work together and mobilize quickly, when necessary, and we at the Council look forward to cooperating with all parts of the Jewish community for future programs and events, hopefully in better circumstances.
