With support from the Teaneck Township, public and private schools and the Jewish day school community, the annual Teaneck Teen Idol contest celebrates an important milestone this January 21, 8 p.m. at Teaneck High School: its 10th anniversary.
“This is one of the best nights in Teaneck,” said Anthony Johnson, MC for the event and ABC Channel 7 Eyewitness News Reporter. “The teen talent is amazing.”
“You can’t help but be proud of all our kids,” said Gail Smith, artistic director of Teaneck Teen Idol and President of the Teaneck Community Chorus, who sponsors the contest. “They work hard and really put themselves out there. The audience loves it.”
The Teaneck Community chorus created the event to showcase Teaneck’s talented teens—and create an opportunity for kids from different schools to meet in a supportive musical environment.
“This year, we have finalists from Barnstable Academy, Bergen Tech, Frisch School, Teaneck Community Charter School and Teaneck High School,” said Jack Aaker, co-producer of the contest. “And we’ll have Olivia Reyes, of Sacred Heart Academy and our current Teaneck Teen Idol performing as well. It’s great to have so many schools represented. We celebrate Teaneck’s diversity!”
While the audience vote for the winner is being tallied, two drawings will be held for one-month free membership at the Glenpointe Spa.
Ticket prices are adults: $18 in advance/$20 at door, seniors: $12 in advance/$15 at door, students $5. Tickets and information are available online at Teaneckcommunitychorus.org.
