Teaneckers to be Honored at Emunah Dinner

On Saturday evening, November 15th, EMUNAH of America will host its annual Circle of Life Benefit Dinner where it will celebrate EMUNAH’s accomplishments in Israel. The organization continues to be a leader in providing outstanding social welfare, educational, cultural and humanitarian services to every segment of Israeli society, spanning the entire circle of life. During Operation Protective Edge, EMUNAH was there to provide emergency services to thousands of children and families, and continues to treat traumatized citizens.

The dinner will provide an opportunity to pay tribute to people who have been instrumental in enriching and strengthening the lives of EMUNAH’s children and families in Israel. The Presidential Award will be bestowed upon Shaindy and Daniel Brothman, Amy and Daniel Gibber, and Felicia and Steven Hoenig, all from Teaneck, NJ. The three women serve as Co-Presidents of the Teaneck Libby Kolb Chapter of EMUNAH. Shari and David Shapiro from Lawrence, NY, will receive the Keter Shem Tov Award. The Gladys Baruch Memorial Tribute will honor the memory of a cherished past National President who served EMUNAH with distinction. Lisa and David Zaslowsky, of Cedarhurst, NY, will serve as Dinner Chairmen.

A special guest at the dinner, M.B. (name withheld), is a graduate of EMUNAH’s Bet Elazraki Children’s Home and a high ranking officer in the Navy. He arrived at Bet Elazraki as a very young boy, together with his siblings. He grew up at the home, celebrated his bar mitzvah there, graduated, and went on to his military service. The staff at Bet Elazraki joined him at his wedding, and he and his wife and children continue to remain close with his EMUNAH “family.”

This year, the Benefit Dinner seeks to raise funds to upgrade technology at EMUNAH children’s residential homes and its educational network. According to Karen Spitalnick, EMUNAH National President, keeping up with modern technology is an integral part of educating children. “The children and young adults in our care rely on us to prepare them for a successful future in today’s hi-tech society,” she says. “If they don’t keep up, they will be left behind. EMUNAH vows to never let that happen.”

EMUNAH maintains 250 social service and educational projects throughout Israel. It nurtures abandoned infants, provides thousands of children with safe and secure day care and after school programs, cares for teens “at risk,” counsels families in crisis, and serves Israel’s senior citizens. EMUNAH’s award-winning educational programs prepare Israeli youth to be contributing members of society.
