Tenafly Chabad Academy fourth graders learned about the phases of the moon in a very delicious way. Using sandwich cookies, they recreated each phase of the moon in cookie form (and managed to find a delicious way to get rid of the part of the cookie they didn’t need). The students learned that the phases of the moon happen because the moon is orbiting the earth and the earth is orbiting the sun. They discussed how the phases of the moon affect us on earth, by affecting the tides and how animals behave. They also learned that the Jewish calendar uses the phases of the moon to determine the Hebrew months and the Jewish holidays. It was a fun way to learn and combine science and Torah.
