The third graders at TCA learned about the never ending number pi on Pi Day, March 14. They measured the circumference of circles around the school—for example: bike wheels, washing cups and kippot—and divided the circumference by the diameter. The answer was always 3.14—which are the first three digits of pi! They also searched the number of pi to find their birth dates because pi contains every combination of numbers!
They also began exploring the range, median, mode and mean for sets of numbers. There is so much fun to be found with numbers!
