Tepee Gathering Held at Yavneh

Yavneh Academy first graders transformed their classroom into a Native American tepee with animal furs, feathers and blankets on the walls. Donning their colorful headdresses they became the first people in America. Authentic music of Native Americans playing in the room made the students feel like they were truly at a real powwow. They sang about Mother Earth and danced movements of the animal, keeping the beat with their gourd rattles. After hunting, gathering and washing, the children built a pretend fire, made popcorn and had a feast while listening to a Cherokee tale.
