The Benjamin Schwartz/ Yavneh 5K

The 9th Annual Yavneh Academy Benjamin Schwartz Memorial 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Garden State Plaza. The event, named in memory of the younger brother of Yavneh parent and JLBC co-founder Mendy Schwartz. Benjy passed away form a brain tumor at 18 after a two year battle. The event provides a wonderful opportunity for the greater community to join the Yavneh Academy family in support of their wonderful school.

Each year the run draws over 800 people and has raised over $35,000 for Yavneh Academy Scholarship needs. Participants of the run/walk are treated to a pre-race workout and a buffet breakfast. At the culmination of the race, medals are presented to the top runners in the various age categories.

The Yavneh 5K is a great way to have fun, get in shape, and raise money for a worthwhile cause.

To register for the race or to sponsor a runner, go to  www.yavnehacademy.org  and click on FunRun/Walk. Congregation Ohr HaTorah had its kickoff youth event on Sunday, October 27, in Jacoby Park in Bergenfield. The shul, led by Rabbi Zvi Sobolofsky, recently hired Eileen and Jordan Silvestri as the Youth Directors. The Silvestri’s were looking to start their tenure with a bang and give the community a preview of what they have in store for the youth at Ohr HaTorah this year. Staging a carnival, complete with moonbounces, an obstacle course, basketball frenzy, carnival games, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn and more, was definitely a great way to start. Children of all ages were kept busy for hours and the parents and grandparents that came were able to get a glimpse of the wonderful programming that will be happening over the months to come. We would like to thank all of  the volunteers who helped make the event a rousing success.
