The Drink Up Jewish Link Sportstar of the Week: Brody Latkin

The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Brody Latkin as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Latkin is a recent graduate of Manhattan Day School and will be taking his game to Yeshivat Frisch in the fall. When asked about Latkin, Rabbi Ariel Cohen, Manhattan Day School MS assistant principal told The Jewish Link, “He was the captain of our basketball and hockey teams and he is an amazing baal midot and derech eretz. He has always been a leader and team player both on and off the court. On the court, I fondly remember him assisting others and encouraging them to work on their skill set. After games his middos are on display, as he wishes his competitors ‘great game’ and other words of support. Off the court, he is extremely well behaved, both in and out of the classroom. Brody offers to help clean up in the classroom, tidy up the beit midrash or offer a teacher a hand in anything they’re involved in. At our end of the year senior dinner, he gave a dvar Torah in which he thanked every staff member for their dedication and care throughout his years at MDS. Really a true mensch.”

Brody, congrats on a great career at MDS and for being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?

My dad is my role model because he works very hard but also always makes sure we have fun. He’s always there for me and takes me to hockey tournaments everywhere, and he’s always helping out others too.

I listen to music on my headphones to get in the zone before a game.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning the Hockey Hall of Fame Future Legends tournament in Toronto.

What is your favorite sports memory?

It was fun going with my dad to a Devils playoff game a few years ago against the Lightning.
