The Drink Up Jewish Link Sportstar of the Week: Eli Rotenberg

The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Eli Rotenberg as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The fourth Grader at Yeshivat Noam is a left-handed pitching ace who has led his TBO recreation and travel teams over the past two years with sub 1 ERAs. When asked about Rotenberg, Coach Aaron Simon told The Jewish Link, “When they describe what a ball player is—that’s Eli. When he is on the mound there is no shaking his focus— he’s totally locked in. Then there is the classic Eli high fastball, that’s what someone named it in travel, it is unhittable. He was a joy to coach.”

Eli, congrats on two outstanding TBO seasons. Who is your role model and why?

My older brother, Akiva. He is really good at baseball and hockey, and always practices and works hard at his game.

What is your favorite sport?

Baseball and hockey. I like pitching and fielding in baseball. I like the quick pace of hockey games.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Pitching two perfect innings in the TBO semi-finals, beating an undefeated team.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Luis Severino, because when he is pitching he is dominant.

What is your earliest sports memory?

Akiva teaching me how to pitch.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Going to a Yankees playoff game in 2019.

What is your pregame routine?

I run, stretch and have a catch.

What is your weirdest sports memory?

We went to a “family day” Rangers game at MSG in 2019. There were so many fights and penalties, it seemed strange that it was “family day.” I guess the players didn’t get the memo.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Playing with my new baby brother Ami.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Having fun and playing well.
