Drink Up and The Jewish Link would like to recognize 15-year-old Jackie Carter as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Carter, a freshman at Yeshivat Frisch earned recognition as an JV All-Star at Hustle and Heart this past summer. When asked about Jackie, Yeshivat Noam coach Steve Gutlove told The Jewish Link, “I had the pleasure of coaching against Jackie last year when she was at ASHAR (Adolph Schreiber Hebrew Academy of Rockland). She is a rare player who is able to carry the offensive load for her team but at the same time made sure to distribute the ball, keeping all of her teammates involved. You can tell by watching her play that she knows the game and is always working to get better.”
Jackie, happy belated birthday and congratulations on being recognized as Sportstar of the Week. Who is your role model and why?
My mom. The chesed she does is so impressive. She helps other families and friends when they are in a tough spot.
What is your favorite sport?
Basketball, because it is a team sport, which is competitive, and I enjoy playing in front of a crowd.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
Winning the championship of the intercamp basketball competition in 2016 for Camp Lavi.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Serena Williams. She is such a hard working American tennis champion who has accomplished so much.
What is your earliest sports memory?
Learning to hit tennis balls with my father when I was very young.
What is your weirdest sports memory?
When a player from the opposing team scored in our basket while I was defending her.
What is your favorite sports memory?
Last minute win of ASHAR vs. WDS when I was in seventh grade.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Hanging out with friends.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
It’s exciting and rewarding to be recognized for all of the practice and hard work I put into basketball and other sports I play.
