The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Josh Ross as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 12 year old is a sixth grader at Ben Porat Yosef and a huge part of the Bergen County Flag Football League’s 3-1 Buccaneers’ success. When asked about Ross, BCFL Commissioner Rabbi Avi Rosalimsky told The Jewish Link, “Josh Ross is the quintessential all-around superstar football player. His quick speed and strong hands, coupled with his flag-grabbing prowess truly make him a force to be reckoned with on the field. But what’s even more impressive is Josh’s huge heart and unwavering determination to succeed. During one of his recent games, an opposing player accidentally kneed him in the leg and fell on top of him. Needless to say, Josh was in a lot of pain. But that pain wasn’t going to stop him from continuing in the game to score 2 more touchdowns for his team. Above all, Josh has the heart of a lion and makes his fellow teammates better players and better people.”

Josh, congrats on a great start to your BCFL career and for being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Who is your role model and why?

My mother because she helps me in everything I do.

What is your favorite sport?

Football, because I love how active it is.

What is your pregame routine?

A couple of stretches, push ups and practicing with my friends.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning the championship football game three years ago in a flag football league after a tough season.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Patrick Mahomes because he’s such an exciting player to watch and seems like a really good guy off the field, too.

What is your earliest sports memory?

Getting a game-winning shot in basketball at school.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Listening to music and chilling.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

It’s nice to be recognized because I try hard every week at football.
