The Drink Up Jewish Link Sportstar of the Week: Nili Klapper

The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Nili Klapper as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Yeshivat He’Atid sixth grader started the season with an 18 point game and has been a leader of the He’Atid Hurricanes all season long. He’Atid head coach Aaron Neufeld told The Jewish Link, “When we come to practice, Nili puts her talent aside and focuses on the team. If someone makes a mistake she is the first to let her teammates know not to put their head down. She is the true definition of a leader.”

Nili, congrats on a great season and for being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?

My Zaidy (Gary Hoberman) in Chicago who always gives me great pep talks. And my coach Aaron Neufeld who has taught me so much this season.

What is your favorite sport?

Basketball, because I’ve been playing it for so long.

What is your pregame routine?

I go on the app Breathwrk, and it helps energize me. I also listen to pep talks before I play a game.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

A buzzer-beater shot.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Scoring my first 3-pointer in a game.

What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you while playing ball?

One time I was playing basketball and the ball went in the street just when my dad’s friend drove by. He hit it and it popped so I had to stop playing because we had no other balls!

What is your earliest sports memory?

Playing basketball on my driveway.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Hanging out with friends, biking, playing video games and doing sit ups.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

The confidence it gives me and makes my school and family proud.
