The Drink Up Jewish Link Sportstar of the Week: Sam Weinberger

The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Sam Weinberger as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Frisch School senior was one of the many talented weapons on the MYHSAL Frisch boys varsity championship team. When asked about Sam, Frisch coach Yaakov Lisker told The Jewish Link, “Sam is every coach’s dream player. As the captain of the Frisch varsity hockey team, Sam leads by example both on and off the court. On the court Sam is tenacious, making every second of every shift count. His passion, size, speed, ball control and rocket of a shot helped him become one of the most dangerous scorers the league has seen in recent memory. There is simply no good way to defend against him. Anyone that hasn’t seen his Bobby Orr style goal to ice the championship game needs to do so. It was one of the most epic goals I have ever seen and encapsulates what a remarkable player he is and the emotion he plays with. Off the court, Sam is a humble but devoted leader who pushes his teammates to lay it all out there on the court. He looks out for everyone, from his own linemate down the the end of the bench, and treats everyone with the same respect. The team this year was a brotherhood and Sam often referred to his teammates as family. Sam doesn’t look for the spotlight and is quick to share the credit even in winning the championship MVP. One of the most special things about him is that he is 100% genuine and his teammates love and respect him for it.”
