The Elmora Avenue Shul Yom Yerushalayim Celebration Kicks Off on Sunday

The Elmora Avenue Shul in Elizabeth, New Jersey, is excited to celebrate the 50th year since the reunification of Yerushalayim. Sunday, May 7, at 6 p.m., will kick off a series of diverse and inspiring events with a movie documentary, “Six Days in June.” This is the definitive documentary on the 1967 Six-Day War, whose aftermath has resulted in the currently existing Arab-Israeli imbroglio. This documentary is highlighted by the remarkable interviews with key, as well as ordinary, individuals who were involved in these events in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Moscow, Washington, Syria and Palestine. Their accounts, along with news reports and home video footage, present a glimpse into the grandeur of this event and its implications into the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict.

Further insights into the dramatic impact of the reunification of Yerushalayim will continue on Wednesday, May 17, at 7:45 p.m. as the JEC Elmora Avenue Shul is privileged to host the world-renowned scholar, historian and author Professor Monty Noam Penkower. Professor Penkower, professor emeritus of Jewish history at the Machon Lander Graduate School of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, will present, “Jerusalem: From Partition to Reunification.”

Nachliel Selevan, the director of Torah Intermedia LLC, will conclude the Yom Yerushalayim celebrations at the Elmora Avenue Shul on Shabbat B’Har/B’Chukotai, May 20, with dual presentations. Selevan spent his formative childhood years in the Old City of Jerusalem’s Jewish Quarter, where he found ancient artifacts in his backyard. Over the past decade, Nachliel has brought his unique and engaging method of learning Torah through tour, travel and archaeology to schools in both Israel and the United States. Recently, he has created a platform for integrated Torah learning and museum programming across the United States. At 5:00 p.m. on Shabbat afternoon, Selevan will present what is sure to be an exhilarating lecture, “Jerusalem: Spiritual or Holy?” Selevan will present the celebration’s finale on Motzei Shabbat, May 20, at 9:45 p.m., in a multimedia presentation “What Does Jerusalem Mean to Me?”

All programs will be held at the Elmora Avenue Shul, 330 Elmora Avenue, Elizabeth, New Jersey. For more information, to sponsor ($50, $180 or $360) or to RSVP, please contact Baback Panahbarhagh at 646-645-4999.
