On Sunday October 22, the OU hosted an event to discuss the tuition crisis. NYS Teach executive director Maury Litwack spoke of a long-game strategy that can significantly impact the financial viability of yeshiva education. From the attendance, I would think that there is no issue at all. Regardless of the strategy, the first step towards progress is to show up. The poor attendance (35 people) at the event was demoralizing. We need to move the conversation beyond Shabbat table talk and online rants and get serious about addressing the untenable reality of yeshiva education. We are all accountable to advocate for solutions to the tuition crisis. Our community must unite and attend future events to discuss yeshiva tuition and demonstrate the seriousness and action that this issue demands.
