Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

I enjoyed reading Nina Glick’s “Yom HaZikaron American-Style” column (May 30, 2024). In it, she talks about four chaplains, including Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, who perished after giving their life jackets to sailors when their ship was sunk by the Germans in World War II.

Attached you can see a memorial to the four chaplains. It is located on the property of St. Genevieve Church, just a few blocks from the JEC in Elizabeth. It would seem the local cub pack planted the memorial tree and installed the plaque due to the Elizabeth connection. The Catholic priest of the four chaplains served at this church just prior to World War II. I hope I am not the only one who walks by it on Shabbos and thinks of their sacrifice.
