The evocative work of Jack Goresko (1916–1991) will be on display at the Waltuch Gallery of the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, 411 East Clinton Avenue, Tenafly, NJ, November 2–23, with a special reception on Sunday, November 2, 1–3 p.m.
Jack Goresko’s story is part of a larger narrative about Jews from around the world who have struggled against antisemitism. Born in Montreal in 1916, Jack attended the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal before immigrating to the U.S.
The diverse themes in his work range from pastoral landscapes and still-life paintings to emotionally charged studies that reveal the angst of human existence under the most dire of circumstances. His illustrations and sketches–profoundly influenced by the Holocaust–reveal his keen observations of people, nature, and the underlying emotional intensity of the human condition. He died in 1991.
This posthumous exhibition is presented as part of the JCC annual Kristallnacht Commemoration and made possible by Jack Goresko’s son, Eben, who is the founder and conservator of his father’s work, which has been showcased at other JCCs and Jewish institutions around the country.
Gallery hours are Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–10 p.m.; Friday and Sunday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.; closed Saturday and Jewish holidays. Admission is free and open to the community. For more information contact Jessica Spiegel, 201-408-1426 or visit the JCC website at www.jccotp.org.
