The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Dovid Siskind this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The RYNJ fourth grader has been playing on hockey, baseball, soccer, basketball and football teams from the earliest time he could. He was MVP of the TABC Jr Hockey championship team last year as a third grader. He has been on the Teaneck travel baseball team for the past two years. Earlier this season in Teaneck Soccer he scored 4/6 goals playing offense. A spectator told The Jewish Link, “Dovid is small but very powerful. He brings excitement to his team and brings up all the players around him with cheering and dedication to the game.”
Dovid congratulations on being recognized as this week’s sportstar of the week. Who is your role model and why?
My dad because he helps me practice my game every day and improve my skills. He also teaches me what to do when I make a mistake and most importantly how to enjoy the game.
What is your favorite sport?
Baseball is my favorite sport because all my friends are on my travel baseball team. I like playing second base and am very good at it (my summer travel team batting average was over.300). I am known for never missing a ball and making double plays.
What is your earliest sports memory?
When I was 6 years old, I liked to play BBO, we had fun and never lost a game.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
My greatest sports accomplishment was winning the 2024 TABC Jr hockey championships as a third grader in a third/fourth/fifth league with seven goals in the playoffs, a hat trick in the championship game and being awarded the playoff MVP for the season.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Juan Soto because he is a lefty player just like me and he’s always reliable when the Yankees need him.
What is your pregame routine?
I always practice so I am warmed up but depending on the sport, I practice different things; in baseball, for example, hitting and fielding; in soccer, going to an open soccer field and practicing shooting and defense.
What is your funniest sports memory?
In my last soccer game, I scored too many goals so the coach had to take me out of the game.
What do you like to do when you are not playing sports?
When not playing sports, I go on the computer and watch or play games. I mostly play baseball 9 or go on my Xbox.
What is your favorite sports moment?
When I was younger, my brother, my dad and I would bring our hockey sticks and net outside to the street and practice together. Sometimes I would play goalie (because my brother made me).
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
Being able to share my sports experiences with everyone reading The Jewish Link.
