The Humble Toast Sportstar Of the Week: Joseph Rosen

The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Joseph Rosen as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 9-year-old third grader at The Moriah School was the top scorer on his CMEK team during their championship, when they beat their opponents 41-40. Joseph is a leader both on and off the court. In his first season in the Bergen County Flag Football League, Joseph and his La Cucina Di Nava Cowboys find them in second place. When asked about his friend and teammate Levi Schwalb told The Jewish Link, “Whether playing basketball, soccer, baseball or football with his Moriah friends and teammates, Joseph gives every game his all, playing with heart, grit and speed. He also cultivates a culture of teamwork and collaboration that benefits the entire team, both when developing plays and when executing on the court.”

Joseph, congratulations on being recognized as this week’s sportstar of the week. Who are your role models and why?

My dad, because he teaches me how to be better at sports and helps me with a lot of other stuff too.

What is your favorite sport?

Basketball. Because it’s fun. I like passing the ball to my friends and getting breakaway layups.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Two basketball championships, last year and this year.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Steph Curry, because he is a guard like I am.

What is your earliest sports memory?

When I was 7, I played in little league baseball and was able to do an unassisted double play.

What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you while playing ball?

When I scored a touchdown at recess, I heard kids screaming “touchdown!” from their classroom.

What do you like to do when you are not playing sports?

Play sports video games, like Madden. I also like playing cards and reading books.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

I love playing with my friends and all working together to win big games.

The Humble Toast Star of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Stars of the Week to [email protected].
