The Humble Toast Sportstar of the Week: Leo Ogorek

The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Leo Ogorek as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 9-year-old rising fourth grader at the Yeshivat He’Atid is a tremendous athlete and has been tearing it up at Camp Shalom this summer.

Camp Shalom Head of Sports Gabi Secemski told The Jewish Link, “In Camp Shalom, Yosef 2 is the ultimate sports bunk. Leo is a huge part of their competitive and spirited games. He excels in baseball, kickball, football and hockey. Beyond his athletic achievements, Leo is a good teammate, a great sport and a real team player.”

Leo, congratulations on being recognized as this week’s sportstar of the week. Who is your role model and why?

My dad is my role model because he’s really cool, strong, good at sports and he never hesitates to practice any sport with me. He’s the best dad ever!

What is your favorite sport?

My favorite sport is basketball because you can play anytime, by yourself or on a team, and it’s always fun.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

This summer, I got the game-winning shot in hockey and scored three touchdowns in one football game at Camp Shalom.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Michael Jordan is my favorite athlete, plays my favorite sport and worked hard to be the best basketball player ever.

What is your earliest sports memory?

My earliest sports memory is playing on TBO and getting my first baseball trophy.

What is your favorite sports memory?

My favorite sports memory is when I scored five points playing my first basketball game in MGBL.

What is your funniest sports memory?

I always think it’s funny when we play dodgeball against the counselors.

What do you like to do when you are not playing sports?

When I’m not playing sports, I like working on creating my new video game.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Being a Sportstar is cool because I love playing all different sports at camp and I’m getting better and better.
