The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Meir Metal as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 16-year-old sophomore at the Yeshiva University High School for Boys had a great performance at Wittenberg 2024, taking home a second place finish. When asked about Meir, his rebbe, Rabbi Daniel Konigsberg told The Jewish Link: “Meir is a very happy-go-lucky boy who always has a smile on his face. He is a real chevra-man. He is beloved by his friends and would do anything for them. He has the utmost respect for his rebbeim and works to forge strong relationships with them. There’s nothing he values more than connecting and shmoozing with his rebbeim about everything in life from learning and hashkafa to wrestling and other hobbies of his. He’s diligent, committed, respectful, passionate and kind.” Another of Meir’s teachers, Jennifer Friedman added, “I am really impressed by his personal and academic growth. This is my second year as his teacher and he has really grown and came into his own this year.”

The Lubavitcher Rebbe who cared about every individual and looked to make the world a better place. The night before the game my parents went to the resting place of the first Lubavitcher Rebbe and asked for a bracha for me to be successful in Wittenberg and BH, with his blessing, I was .
What is your favorite sport?
Wrestling and basketball. Because wrestling requires you pushing your body to the max, and basketball because it’s fun and competitive.
What is your pregame routine?
Running and stretching, having a light snack and staying hydrated.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
Winning Wittenberg.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Michael Jordan. Because I’m an avid sneakerhead.
What is your earliest sports memory?
In daycamp having a three hour long championship game in 95 F weather .
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Playing on my drums and working out.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
Feeling accomplished and being a role model to others .
