The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Yitzy Sulimanoff as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The eighth grader at Yeshivat Noam scored a team-high five goals in the Knights’ season opener. When asked about Yitzy, Yeshivat Noam Head of School Rabbi Chaim Hagler told The Jewish Link, “As skilled and talented as Yitzy is in soccer, his humility and sportsmanship are even greater. Yitzy is a star player, scoring five goals in one game earlier in the season and sets the tone offensively. Yitzy is quiet and respectful to all, on and off of the court and he leads by example, with hustle and effort in both practice and games.” Marc Goldfarb of Chevra Lacrosse added, “Ever since Yitzy first held a lacrosse stick at Chevra Lacrosse, he had a inner desire to learn about how to play … His great attitude and sportsmanship served as a role model for all the boys on the field.”
Yitzy, congrats on a great first game and for being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who are your role models and why?
My parents are my role models. They’ve been playing sports forever! They’ve taught us about good sportsmanship and midot while playing your best, as well as the importance of balancing sports with all other aspects of life.
What is your pregame routine?
Shooting around with my friends.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
Scoring five goals in the first game of the season and helping my team make a comeback from being down 7-2.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
My family wants me to pick Josh Allen because they are huge Buffalo Bills fans, and I think he actually is a good choice because he is a great player both on and off the field.
What is your earliest sports memory?
Going to my mom’s basketball games when I was just a baby. They’d pass me around while she played or coached.
What is your weirdest sports memory?
In one of my soccer games, I was just trying to kick the soccer ball to the middle and accidentally scored. Everyone was cheering and I didn’t even realize what I had done!
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Playing video games.
What is your favorite sports memory?
Going to the park and playing sports with my family.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
Having been nominated!
The Humble Toast Star of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Stars of the Week to [email protected].
