The Idea School students celebrated Israel’s 75th birthday by participating in a maccabia run by the faculty and staff. Students competed in challenges throughout the afternoon, each one based on a different aspect of Israeli culture and society. One challenge involved creating graffiti art based on the graffiti portraits in Machane Yehuda and the street art in Tel Aviv, while another was a Maker challenge based on Israel’s reputation as a high-tech center. Students got to go outside for a round of Israel ninja games, where they took on various different athletic races, and then came back indoors for a chance to engage in a Eurovision-like contest using famous Israeli entries from the 70s and 80s. Of course, the day had to have a chummus-making contest and ended with cake, cupcakes and chummus tasting. A fantastic Yom Ha’atzmaut was had by all!
