The Idea School’s Allied Against Hate cohort met in person for the first time at Teaneck High School. Professor Jonathan Golden of Drew University, who is spearheading this community-based learning class, gathered his students, Teaneck High School students, and The Idea School students as they heard from Lynne Algrant, a community organizer, about the history of Black-Jewish relations in Teaneck and Englewood. The students brainstormed about projects they’re working on together over the course of the semester. This class followed ones in which the students heard from Theodora Lacey, a civil rights activist who marched with MLK, and in which students have done extensive readings on the history of Black-Jewish relations in the civil rights era and beyond.
