The Idea School honored a week of Yoms beginning with a student created presentation for Yom Hazikaron where students researched fallen IDF soldiers, recorded a bio and created their own tributes. The digital presentation can be found on The Idea School’s website. Yom Ha’atzmaut began with an online Israel trivia game of “Yom Ha’atzmakahoot” led by Ulpan teacher, Tzach Yoked. The Idea School was then joined on Zoom from Jerusalem by Smadar Goldstein of JETS Israel, who led interactive discussions with the students on Israel’s future and current dilemmas in Israeli society. Among many breakout room topics were whether Jews around the world should be able to vote in Israel’s elections and what kind of Jewish curriculum, if any, should be taught in Israel’s public schools. Students also got to learn about how Israel has become such a technological superstar in our modern world. A Zoom Krav Maga session in Hebrew closed the Yom Ha’atzmaut celebrations with exercise, fun and a lesson in Hebrew language.
