The Idea School is preparing for the Final Exhibition of Student Learning of the year scheduled to take place on June 4, at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades at 7 p.m. This semester’s unit was focused on the power of storytelling with driving questions around how stories connect to the past, teach for the future and their importance for continuity of traditions from generation to generation. Among the projects set to be on display on exhibition night are a Reading Tree and Garden which the students will design and build, a “Lukasa”—an ancient African memory and oral storytelling device—which the students are engineering, using their story of their family history and a family journey website the students are creating as they research their own background and tell their own story.
