Commenting on “FM Katz: Israel Will Bomb Iran Directly if Attacked” (April 12, 2024), Iran’s weakness is proven by the fact that none of its proxy terrorist groups have attempted a serious attack on Israel. Theoretically, this should be the chance they’ve all been waiting for — to surround Israel while it’s fighting in Gaza.
Hezbollah, the Houthis, etc., made a pathetic token effort, the Palestinian Authority has essentially done nothing but lip service as it anticipates Hamas’ demise. ISIS, Al Qaeda and Syria are completely silent. Iran itself hasn’t fought a serious war with anyone since it was at war with Iraq and both armies were pathetic, ill prepared and supplied. Iran bluster and parades have created an illusion of power much like Saadam Hussein created an illusion of weapons of mass destruction. I don’t know how credible the threat of nuclear arms is, but the only other thing stopping the West or other Gulf nations from bombing, assassinating Iranian leaders or backing a coup is their fear of domestic fundamentalists in their own countries.
