The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize nine year old Alexandra Magence as this week’s sportstar of the week. Magence, a third grader at SAR, has gotten off to a great start for MGBL team Chestnut Holdings, scoring a division high 24 points in the first game of the season.
Alexandra, congratulations on a great first game. Who are your role models and why?
My parents, because they always tell me to never give up and to keep on trying.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Yadier Molina because he’s a very good player on the St. Louis Cardinals.
What is your pregame routine, if you have one?
Eating a snack and practicing my shot.
What is your earliest sport memory?
Playing soccer in the Teaneck league when I was five.
What is the funniest thing that happened to you while playing sports?
When my mom caught me one time doing handstands and cartwheels while I was in the middle of a soccer game.
What is your favorite sports memory?
Scoring 24 points in the MGBL game this year.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Drawing, playing with my friends and reading.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
Being in the same newspaper that my Dad writes in.
