The Jewish Link and Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week: Dovid Rozehzadeh

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize fourteen year old Dovid Rozehzadeh as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Rav Teitz Mesivta Academy freshman is the only modern day “Bo Jackson” in yeshiva athletics, playing both JV hockey and JV basketball for the RTMA Thunder.

A spectator told The JLNJ, “ Rozehzadeh is not only a two sports athlete, he is a two sport star.” Dovid’s star is shining a bit brighter after his recent hat trick against the Kushner Cobras

Dovid, it looks like your freshman year is off to a great start. Who is your role model?

My role model is my father because he has taught me so much about everything and how to be a successful person. He has so much experience from going through so much, like escaping Iran. Another role model is my grandfather who has taught me so much about the game of basketball and has helped me get to be the player I am.

What is your favorite sport?

This is a tough question to answer because I play both basketball and hockey, but those are definitely both my favorite sports.

Who is your favorite professional athlete?

My favorite athlete is LeBron James because he does whatever it takes to win.

What is your pregame routine?

My pregame routine for basketball is passing and shooting together with the guys I’m on the floor with. That way we all get a feeling of how it will be in the game. My pregame routine in hockey is very similar, which is to pass the puck around to the corners and to the points with the players I am on the floor with during the game.

What is your earliest sports memory?

My earliest sports memory is when I played basketball for my town league team and scored 37 points to put us in the semi finals.

What is one of the funniest things that happened to you while playing sports?

One of my funniest sports memories is when, throughout the year, my basketball coach last year would mix up the names of me and my sixth grade brother, Ikey, in every single game when we both started.

What is your favorite sports memory?

My favorite sports memory is when my team played JFS last year in our last game of the season and my co-captain Yitzi Weis and I helped our team get the win to be 9-1 division champs.

What is your favorite thing to do when not playing sports?

My favorite thing to do when not playing sports is to make sure I sustain a good average in all honors, that way I can stay on both teams.

What is the best thing about being a sportstar?

To be able to show my appreciation to my coaches and the great accomplishments they have helped me achieve.

The Jewish Link and Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week will receive a $10 gift certificate to Gotham Burger. Please send nominees for upcoming Gotham Burger Sportstars of the Week to [email protected].
