The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize Yeshivat Noam fourth grader and Teaneck resident Eyal Kinderlehrer as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Eyal, who is almost 10, is a talented, multi-sport athlete who is currently playing for three sports teams—the Bergen Broncos, for his father’s MGBL 3/4 Team Jewish Link of NJ and is in his second season playing floor hockey with the TABC Jr. Hockey league. Eyal played masterfully last week for all of his teams with double digit point totals for his MGBL and Bergen Broncos teams and two goals over two games for his TABC Jr. Hockey team. He was also the hero of his game this past Sunday with a game winning overtime goal. Eyal truly lives up to the Hebrew meaning of his name, which is “strength,” as he brings his high energy level and positive, can-do attitude and spirit to everything he plays. Eyal is among one of the bigger and stronger kids for his age and uses his size and strength well. We expect Eyal to continue improving as he grows and suspect he may make future appearances in this space.
Eyal, congratulations on a great week. Who is your role model and why?
My older brother, Noam Kinderlehrer, who is in eighth grade at Yeshivat Noam, is my role model because he always wants to play sports with me and because he’s an extremely good basketball player.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Carey Price of the Canadiens is my favorite player currently because I am a Canadiens fan (that’s because my mother is from Montreal) and he is one of the best NHL goalies.
What is your pregame routine, if you have one?
For hockey I like to practice with a goalie in the net and take long shots against him. For basketball, I always like to shoot from long range in practice.
What is your earliest sports memory?
I think it was when I was six and I went to my first Super Bowl party at my friend’s house.
What is your funniest sports memory?
I took a layup and it airballed. It was funny at the time.
What is your favorite sports memory?
When I hit a buzzer beater for my Bergen Broncos team a year or so ago. That was a nice moment.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
I like to play football and basketball on my XBox.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
I am now going to be famous.
