The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize 16-year-old Isaac Markovitz as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Frisch sophomore is coming off a terrific season as the JV Cougars goalie on the JV hockey team, capped off by a 2-0 shut out in the championship game. This win earned Frisch their first JV Hockey championship and Markovitz, the game MVP.

Isaac, yasher koach on an amazing season. Who would you say is your role model?

Babe Ruth, because despite holding the record for most strikeouts in a major league career, he was able to overcome his difficulties at the plate, never gave up and ultimately became one of the best athletes of all time.

Who is your favorite professional athlete?

Martin Brodeur, because his passion for hockey and the goalie position allowed him to have an extremely successful 21 year career with the Devils.

What is your pregame routine?

Music, Gatorade and a light snack.

What is your earliest sport memory?

My first Yankee game when I was six years old and the Yankees lost to the Orioles 6-4.

What is your weirdest sports memory?

When I was umpiring my brother’s baseball game, I called him out on strikes and had to listen to him yelling at me all night long. Truthfully, it was a little outside.

What do you like to do when you are not between the pipes for the Frisch Cougars?

Hang out with my friends and family.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar of the Week?

My grandparents will be so happy to see me in the newspaper.
