Students at Lubavitch on the Palisades Preschool learned about the month of Elul through a parable from Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi. They learned that during Elul “the king is in the field.” Normally, a king is situated on his throne behind many closed doors, corridors and gates. However, when the king leaves his palace and goes to the field, he is accessible by all. Similarly, in the month of Elul, God’s presence descends from the heavens and everyone increases prayer, Torah study, and charity.
