Regarding “On Judaism and Chess Today” in the July 6, 2023 Letters to the Editor section: Words have multiple meanings. The Merriam-Webster dictionary has 3 different meanings for the word ”bishop.” Only the first has any religious association. Meaning 2 is “either of two pieces of each color in a set of chessmen…” Meaning 3 is “mulled port wine flavored with oranges and cloves.” There are already enough “treif” things in the world;,let’s not unnecessarily “treif” ordinary words.
