On Monday, October 7, The Moriah School commemorated the tragic events that occurred one year ago with a series of meaningful activities across all grade levels. First and second graders prepared flags for Simchat Torah, decorating one side with holiday-themed designs and the other side featuring the “Mi Shebeirach prayer for the chayalim. Students in third, fourth and fifth grades created displays with the prayer for Medinat Yisrael and the prayer for the IDF. Additionally, fourth and fifth graders joined their peers from yeshiva day schools across the country in a special Zoom program, “United in Tefillah,” where they heard words of inspiration from IDF reservist Rabbi Zach Frisch and Rabbi Leo Dee, participating in tefillot and songs as a collective expression of unity and solidarity. Middle school students began the day with a memorial service following tefillah, which included tefillot, lighting candles and reciting “Kel Maleh Rachamim.” Later in the day, middle school students were divided into six groups to watch a roundtable Q&A session featuring Rabbi Yaakov Neuberger, reflecting on October 7. These activities honored the memories of those lost and reinforced the Moriah community’s commitment to unity and prayer during difficult times.
