Last week’s article by Passover Listings (“Think You Can’t Afford a Passover Program,” January 8, 2024) unwittingly set up a binary between luxury American programs and cheaper European ones that are much more expensive to get to. Clearly, there are more options: If you’re already flying to Europe, why not fly a little further and spend Pesach supporting Israel?

Or, for tropical weather and the same price as a domestic ticket, you could travel to an inexpensive program in Central America. As a bonus, your dollars will boost the economies of countries that tend to be very pro-Israel; Guatemala even boasts a Hebrew-speaking president!
