The Post-Sleepaway Camp Laundry Experience

We’re sure many of you remember the eager anticipation of waiting for your kids to come home from camp. But when all the hugs and “welcome homes” are over, you are left with a load. Literally. You cringe as your children began to unpack their suitcases. Their clothing, bedding and towels start to flow out of the suitcases into a seemingly bottomless pit on the floor. Your laundry room immediately turns into a dirty clothing dump and you feel as though you need a hazmat suit to enter the premises. You put in load after load of laundry for hours and hours, screaming as the occasional bug crawls out from between the folds of the cloth. After you have finally washed everything, you spend hours folding all the clothes and reminiscing to a time when your house did not smell like camp.

What if you can have the joys of having your kids back home without the daunting bags of laundry that come along with it? If the clothing is brought straight to the laundromat, you do not have to bring all of the dirty laundry into your home, and you can finish it in half the time. Places like Splash Laundromat in Teaneck have dozens of washing machines and dryers so all the laundry can be magically cleaned in only a couple of hours. “The cleaning is also a lot more thorough with these machines than you would have at home,” Keith, the manager of Splash Laundromat and Drycleaning, told the Jewish Link.

Many laundromats not only have large machines for you to do the laundry yourself, but will even wash and fold the laundry for you. You simply drop off the duffle bags of clothes and you come back to a folded pile of freshly clean clothes. Places like Splash Laundromat and Drycleaning will even give discounts to people with large loads. “Anything that goes over 10 pounds will automatically get five cents off of each pound,” explained Keith.

So this year, as you take your children off of the camp bus, you can give them a huge hug and listen attentively as they go on and on about their experiences at camp. You don’t have to dread that day in August when they return, because you do not have to spend the day washing clothing that smells like it hasn’t been washed in years. You don’t have to worry about letting a bug loose in your house every time you unfold something. You can take the suitcases right off of the camp bus and bring them straight to the laundromat.
