Everyone’s words have power. Our words can change someone’s perspective on another person, whether it makes them think greatly or horribly of them. Our words can help give encouragement or discouragement to the people around us. But most importantly our words can shape our future. Our words can come into existence.

One famous example is Rachel Imenu, whose yahrzeit was this Sunday. Yaakov did not know that Rachel stole her father’s idols, and he cursed that whoever stole them should die. Rachel ended up dying during childbirth because of this curse.

In this week’s parsha, Vayera, Avraham says to his son, Yitzchak, that Hashem will make sure that there is a lamb for the mizbeach. In the end, Yitzchak wasn’t given as a korban to Hashem. Instead, Hashem had sent a lamb to give to Him on the mizbeach. Even if a person believes that Avraham knew that he was not going to kill his son in the end, Avraham was never told that he would be giving a lamb korban. It was Avraham’s words that made this korban happen. We all have this power and must use it to help bring happiness, peace, health and Mashiach to the world.
