The RAIN on Water Event Space Sportstar of the Week: Adina Rosenberg

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and The RAIN on Water Event Space would like to recognize Adina Rosenberg as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The senior guard is finishing up her third year as a member of the Yeshiva University/Stern College Maccabees women’s basketball team. She was named team captain this year because of the strong leadership she has displayed throughout her career. She tallied a career-high 15 points to lead Yeshiva to a Skyline victory over Sarah Lawrence College, on January 28, and grabbed seven rebounds in Yeshiva’s season-opening victory over King’s College N.Y., back on November 10. She has helped lead the Maccabees to an increase in their season-win total in each of the three years she has played on the team. YU women’s basketball head coach Michael Alon told the JLNJ, “Adina’s commitment to detail, both on and off the court, is quite evident. Her natural leadership comes out and I would not be surprised if she coaches basketball at a very high level sometime in the near future. She was born to teach.”

Adina, congratulations on another great season of Macs basketball. Who are your role models and why?

I’d have to say my parents. I learn so much from the way they both interact with others. They are invested in their family and friends and are always caring and mindful of those around them. They won’t compromise their values, are authentic and committed and manage to do it all while having a good time. I’m always learning from them.

What is your favorite sport, and why?

My favorite sport is definitely basketball. I’ve always enjoyed playing and it’s a great outlet. The game has also taught me countless lessons I know I’ll implement moving forward. I’ve learned sportsmanship on the court, how to balance being on a team with schoolwork, persistence and patience. I met a group of girls I wouldn’t have otherwise. Practicing every day with them has been so much fun and we’ve had the chance to get really close.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

It’s hard to say, I’ve had so many great opportunities from playing in all star games, tournaments and for the NCAA in college.

What is your pregame routine?

Listening to music with the team on the way to the game is always a good pregame routine.

What is your earliest sports memory?

I remember playing basketball with my dad in the park and on the courts near my apartment growing up.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

We practice every day, so I’m usually playing sports more often than not. But if I have some free time, I spend time with friends, play piano or catch up on school work.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

I’ve been playing basketball since elementary school and am nearing the end of my final season playing for Stern. It’s been a part of my life as far as I can remember, and it’s definitely a nice way to end a great run.
