The RAIN on Water Event Space Sportstar of the Week: David Weisbrot

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and The RAIN on Water Event Space would like to recognize 12-year-old David Weisbrot as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The seventh grader at the Yavneh Academy thrilled the crowd with a game winning steal on December 17. The Yavneh Redhawks were down one with less than 20 seconds to play. Weisbrot came up with a huge steal and then found an open teammate who converted for the go ahead basket. A spectator told the JLNJ, “If anyone deserves to be recognized as Sportstar of the week it should be David because he saved the game and had the winning assist.”

David, congratulations on the game changing play and good luck to you and the Redhawks in the upcoming playoffs. Who is your role model and why? My role model is my older brother Benny Weisbrot because he gave me my love for sports and played basketball and football with me when I was young which made me a better player.

My greatest sports accomplishment happened a few weeks ago in my Yavneh Academy basketball game. With 15 seconds left, and down by 1, ASHAR was dribbling the ball up the court to end the game. I stole the ball from their point guard and ran down the court, faked the shot and passed it to Jared Reich who scored the winning basket. The fans and my teammates all cheered and ran to high five me.

My earliest sports memory is getting on to the big screen in the Dallas Cowboys stadium when I was 5 years old.
