The RAIN on Water Event Space Sportstar of the Week: Jack Margolius

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and The RAIN on Water Event Space would like to recognize 17-year-old Jack Margolius as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The senior at The Frisch School has been a force on the Frisch ice hockey team from day one. When Jack Margolius arrived at Frisch as a freshman, he came ready to play. However, the 2016-17 Frisch hockey team was extremely talented and minutes were hard to come by. That’s when it all changed. There was no waiting for his turn. Jack took it upon himself to begin an arduous off-season training program that would become his trademark and set an example for the rest of the team. On ice clinics, off ice training, strength and conditioning sessions would now be the norm, improving his game in all areas. “He became a different player” recalled Frisch alumnus Benji Feintuch. He would go on to become an important part of Frisch’s historic cup championship season and currently serves as team captain. His impressive statistics and locker room leadership are all direct results of his intense work ethic. He was also recently recognized as one of the State’s top forwards of 2019-2020.

Jack, congratulations on being recognized as one of New Jersey’s finest. Who is your role model and why?

My mom and dad because they work hard for their kids and they set good examples for me and my little sister and brother.

What is your favorite sport?

Hockey, because it combines skill and physicality along with skating.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning the McMullen Cup Championship my sophomore year. We had a great team and great coaches (special thanks to Ralph Abecassis for his unwavering dedication). We worked really hard and won three spring league championships.

What is your earliest sports memory?

My first goal, when I was 5-years-old playing in Central Park.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

I don’t really have one but probably Nathan Mackinnon because of his speed and playmaking ability.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Just playing with my teammates from Frisch and my friends from the Maccabi games in Stamford, Albany and Orange County, California.

What is your pregame routine?

Warming up with the boys. The goalie, Ezzy Wachsstock, and I do a handshake before the game

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

The best thing about being a Sportstar is setting a good example of hard work and dedication for the younger Jewish ice hockey players.
