The Jewish Link of New Jersey and The RAIN on Water Event Space would like to recognize 7-year-old Kobi Insler as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The first grader at Yeshivat Noam showcased his skill set in the fall session of BFL. Rabbi Kessel of BFL told the JLNJ, “Kobi is a tremendously talented athlete, he excels at both hockey and football. He has great hands and a phenomenal attitude, but what truly makes Kobi a Sportstar is the way he treats his teammates.”
Kobi, congratulations on high praise from a rebbe that lives and breathes what being a Sportstar is all about. Who is your role model and why?
Ryan McDonagh, because he was the captain of the Rangers, worked hard and played for his teammates, and he signed my Junior Rangers contract.
What is your favorite sport?
Hockey, because I can practice it every day when I get home from school in my basement.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
Scoring a goal off of the Kushner Cobras varsity goalie.
What is your earliest sports memory?
When my dad surprised me with tickets to a Rangers game standing outside MSG, and Vesey scored in the shootout to win.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Wayne Gretzky, because he’s the best hockey player to ever live and he was on the Rangers.
What is your favorite sports memory?
When the Rangers won the Stanley cup and when Odell made the one handed catch.
What is your pregame routine?
Get to the game minutes early to stretch, warm up and spend time with teammates and friends.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Relax and watch sports or draw or do a puzzle.
What is your weirdest sports memory?
When Odell got upset and kicked the field goal warm up nets.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
That you get to have fun and hang out with friends while you play.
