It is now apparent that the overwhelming majority of protesters are peaceful and nonviolent and composed of people of all backgrounds.

We have the litany of recent cases of murder under color of law while driving while black, running while black and even living while black. Eight minutes and 45 seconds. Doesn’t Mr. Hes expect pushback (“Why America Is Burning,” June 4, 2020)? Which politicians have been pouring fuel on the fire? Has President Trump united and calmed the nation with empathy and a path forward? Rather, he has used every opportunity to unleash his lethal incompetence, to sow division and to create chaos.

The Torah demands the equal application of justice to all. It provides the definitive blueprint to a just society and provides the correct balance between freedom without order and order without freedom. Is the answer to apply unjustified aggression to folks protesting unjustified aggression? Imagine, attempting to send combat troops against civilians. Beating and gassing peaceful demonstrators for a photo op holding a Bible upside down. You can’t make this up!

Mr. Hes’ prismatic monovision allows him to stroll with his head up high only to go sprawling over the curb. Sen. Romney, Generals Powell and Mattis and the Lincoln Republicans are just a few of the reasonable and informed citizens who are stepping forward. What about you?
