The Return of Yeshiva League Sports at Frisch

(Frisch Sports) After a quiet year for Yeshiva League sports, they are finally back. On Tuesday, May 11, the Frisch campus became a hub for Yeshiva League athletics. Utilizing all of their outdoor facilities, Frisch simultaneously played four separate games. The first game of Yeshiva League basketball for both boys and girls, as well as games for the girls softball team and the boys volleyball team.

The return of boys basketball looked a little different than usual. The game took place outdoors on newly painted courts and the players wore masks. However, even with the new Covid-19 safe environment, the Yeshiva League intensity resumed right where it left off in a close game between the Frisch Cougars and the Flatbush Falcons.

The Falcons wasted no time scoring, starting off the game with a layup straight off the tip. The Cougars quickly responded with two 3-pointers scored by seniors Jonah Schachter and David Markovitz. After a hard fought first half by both teams, the game was tied up at a score of 27-27.

At the start of the second half, sophomore Alex Zakheim came right out of the gates with a 3-pointer to give Frisch the lead. With that momentum, the Cougars never looked back. The game stayed close but the Cougars kept a consistent lead of just a few points throughout the second half. In the final two minutes of the game Frisch was able to lock down on defense and hit some clutch free throws in order to close out the 49-44 victory. The win was a true team effort with the contribution of nine different scorers.

Even though the environment was different than usual, it’s great to finally have Yeshiva League basketball back on the court.
