The Shefa School Takes A Field Trip

In the first, second and third grade classes, the Shefa School’s students have been studying New York’s five boroughs as well as what makes something a landmark. During the Manhattan unit, students learned about Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, The Statue of Liberty and 30 Rock. They then dove deeper into Grand Central, exploring why Grand Central Terminal was created, the history from steam trains to electric trains, Jackie Kennedy’s role in saving Grand Central from demolition, and some of the most popular places to visit in the station (e.g. the constellation ceiling, the whispering wall, the golden clock in the main concourse, and the plaque about Jackie Kennedy). After the lesson’s conclusion, the classes each had the opportunity to visit Grand Central to see what they had studied first-hand.
