In writing class, the Shefa School’s first and second-grade classes have been learning to write “how to” paragraphs by sequencing a set of steps. The students learned to introduce their paragraph with a topic sentence and to provide detailed steps for how to complete a task by using transition words such as first, next, then, finally, and to finish with a concluding statement. The class then worked together to write a “how to” paragraph for making cookies which led to the opportunity to follow their steps while baking cookies of their own.
